UNCC Journals

The University of Nottingham Climbing Club has published journals for more than 50 years.

The club started life on Sutton Bonington campus in the 1950s and has been known as the "University of Nottingham Mountaineering Club" and the "University of Nottingham Union Mountaineering Club" over the years.

Confusingly the university forced their clubs to rebrand a few years ago, so the mountaineering club became the climbing club and a different club became the mountaineering club. Lost yet?

Past members:

  • Everest expedition leader Sir John Hunt's daughter, who came on one trip and was so appalled she never returned.

  • BMG Andy Perkins

  • Simon Lee, owner of UKBouldering

  • Pete Boardman, Himalayan mountaineer who was killed with his climbing partner Joe Tasker on Everest in 1983. The Boardman Tasker Prize was created in their memory.

  • Rachael Crewesmith is one of the honorary presidents (I'm the other one)

  • E9 madman Seb Grieve

  • Pro skier Tom Grant

Here you can find PDF copies of most of the old journals. I'm working on finding the others. Many thanks to past members who took the time to scan these.
